Why You Should Develop Your Own Cyber Design

When you’re a kid there’s nothing more satisfying than putting your most recent masterpiece on the fridge for all to see. Mom will ooooo and ahhhh over the brilliance of your art and proclaim she has the next great artist living under their roof. This, of course, prompts you to outdo yourself with something even grander than before.

Some mothers will eventually place each treasure in a box and refer to them when you’ve grown up and they are left to find company in the memories you left behind. It’s the nature of parenthood, and an emotional moment all mothers go through when you’re not looking.

Web design can be a bit like drawing the pictures of childhood. You may not always get it right, but you place it on a global fridge for all to see. The good news is you likely won’t stop with your first masterpiece. You will explore new ways to express yourself and you will gain courage from every attempt.

I couch the concept of web design in emotive terms because it can, and perhaps even should be a slightly emotional experience – at least at the beginning.

Bing, SEO, and Google – Gervais Group

Gervais Group – SEO Tips by Gervais Group — Bing is doing its best to differentiate itself from Google. Attempting to claim some high ground, Microsoft is positioning Bing as the world’s first “decision engine” as opposed to its predecessors, the search engines. Differentiation requires using different algorithms and a new design on the search engine results page. New design or not the SERP’s on Bing do resemble Google’s at first glance.

Depending on the search, Bing delivers either highly relevant results or something a little less so. Searches in Microsoft’s wheelhouse of health, local, travel, and shopping are better than most others on Bing. The wheelhouse group was not arrived at by accident. These markets carry high potential for advertising revenues and have historically been among the highest revenue generators on the internet.

Bing isn’t going as far as saying that it will change search engine optimization, yet. In early June, a whitepaper released by Bing’s Webmaster Center Team stated “Ultimately, SEO is still SEO. Bing doesn’t change that. Bing’s new user interface design simply adds new opportunities to searchers to find what the information they want more quickly and easily, and that benefits webmasters who have taken the time to work on the quality of their content and website design.”

12 Blogs To Write

Published: Jun 3rd, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

There have been many mentions of blogs in my previous entries. The reason I blog about blogging so much is because it is very important to small business websites and the like. It allows you to offer free information to visitors and in turn, they are attracted to your website. So to help you get started or just to help freshen up your blog, I’ve come up with 12 blog ideas to add to your repertoire.

1. Give some insight as to who your employees are and what kind of people they are.

2. Hold some sort of contest or competition that gets users involved and gets your product out just a little bit more.

3. Write a top 10 or top 100 list having to do with your business.

4. Write some testimonials and post some pictures of customers using your products.

5. Post 10 things customers most likely don’t know about your business.

6. Refer others to blogs that you may read or that may be pertinent to your company’s industry.

Sharpen Tool of Photoshop: Sharpening Has Never Been This Easy

Digital photography is the choice of all graphic design professionals today. Even in an adult web design activity, digital photographs are used for enhanced results. But digital photographs often do have a tendency of losing a certain amount of sharpness over a particular period of time. Because of that fact, most of the digital photographs may appear a bit blurred and may not be as prominent as they used to be few months back. But in the designing world, there are answers for everything, even for blurred photographs.

The Sharpen Tool of Photoshop is one of the best ways to sharpen pixels within the area of the brush that’s used in any adult website design effort. If you have a scanned copy or a digital image but it’s a bit dim and out-of-focus, the Photoshop Sharpen filter just can do the trick for you. Brightness, contrast and crispness can be brought into an image as per your requirements using the tool.

Web Design – Use a Good Font and Background Color Combination to Improve Readability

You want to make sure you use a font and background color that’s easily readable. Certain color combinations are better than others. Choose the wrong combination, and you may frustrate visitors and drive them away. But a good color combination can make the reading experience better.

For instance, if you choose a color combination such as yellow text on a white background, the text will be hard to read. Web site visitors may give up, not bother reading it, and move on to the next site. Or if they decide to read it, they’ll have to highlight the text with their mouse cursor so the text will be visible.

A good rule of thumb is to choose a font color that’s opposite of the background color. An example would be black text on a white background. Black text on a white background is used a lot because it’s easy to read.

The Evolution of RSS

Published: May 6th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

What is RSS? It is a feed or a web feed that is used to publish frequently updated pages like blogs, news, audio web pages etc. The data format used here is XML. It has been evolving since March 2009. It is in the recent days that it is widely used.
RSS came in three versions. RSS 0.91 was called Rich Site Summary. RSS 0.9 and 1.0 was called RDF Site Summary. RSS 2.0 was called Really Simple Syndication.

As far the evolution goes, there were several attempts before RSS that was not widespread. Meta Content Framework was developed by Ramanathan. V. Guha et al in Apple Computer’s Advanced Technology group, by restructuring information.
The RSS 0.9 version was created by Guha at Netscape in March 1999 to be used in My.Netscape.Com portal. The version RSS 0.91 was created by Dan Libby simplifying the format by removing the RDF elements. IT incorporated News Syndication format by Dave Winer. Dan Libby renamed RSS to “Rich Site Summary”.

For eight years, Netscape did not participate in the evolution of RSS as it dropped RSS support to My.Netscape.Com in April 2001. AOL was the new owners of the company and they were restructuring it. There were a couple of entities called the RSS-DEV working group and Winer whose UserLand Software published tools outside Netscape that could read and write RSS. UserLand filed for a trademark registration inside U.S. It failed to satisfy USPTO request of the examiner and hence the proposal was rejected.

Hosting your Email and Web Site Together

When you make the step to purchase your domain name (www.yourbusiness.com) and your web hosting why host your email on your own. For the same cost of your web hosting you can pick web hosting that will also host your email for you.

If you add all of the costs together it is much more economical to host your email with your web hosting company. If you wanted to host email your self first you would have to purchase a server which will run you about $3,000. Then you will need to purchase Microsoft Exchange Server for about $500. Then you will need to pay a contractor to install your Windows operating system and Microsoft Exchange. Then you will have to pay someone to setup your Microsoft Exchange server with your domain name, both of those installation can run you about $100 an hour for about 5 hours so another $500. Then you will have to purchase a better service provider for your Internet with a static IP address. When you add up all of cost in hosting your own mail server it will run you close to $4,000 up front host and about $50 a month for your Internet provider.
